Town centre gym is to become bigger

A GYM in Bognor Regis town centre is expanding.

Gary Kelloway has received planning permission to change the use of an office in the High Street into the fitness centre.

Approval was granted by Arun District Council for the proposal on the ground floor of number 64.

Mr Kelloway has told the council he intends to use the space in conjunction with the gym he opened on the first floor of numbers 62 and 64 almost a year ago.

Council planning officer Simon Davis says in his report: “The building was formerly the town’s Job Centre and parts of the building are currently empty.

“It is considered that the act of bringing this space back into a commercial use would support the economic vitality and viability of the town centre and also help to smarten up the shop front and wider streetscene.

“Furthermore, such a proposal can only improve the building’s appearance as it should bring life back to the ground-floor frontage.”

Mr Davis says the proposed 24-hour opening of the gym matched modern lifestyles.

A condition he has placed on the approval means written approval is needed for sound systems which could be heard in the street.
