RESIDENTS of a housing scheme in Bognor Regis are banding together to help their neighbours.
The occupiers of the flats in Bersted Green Court have formed a tenants’ association to marshal their efforts.
They will be holding a summer barbecue at 4pm today (Saturday, August 16) at the neighbouring Bersted Green Learning Centre on Hazel Road to raise money for their cause.
The event will feature plenty of food followed by music from the 1940s, 50s and 60s and more with Sandra and Mick.
Tickets cost £5 on the day. Refreshments should be taken along.
David Day, the new group’s chairman, said: “There are a lot of people who can’t get out of their flats.
“We’re trying to raise money to get a minibus for them to take them out for the day.
“We could go to the New Forest so they could really enjoy themselves.”
There are 38 flats in the Arun District Council-owned complex on the corner of Hazel Road and Durlston Drive.
Mr Day said the group had been set up about three months ago to represent the tenants.
They had already benefited from refurbishments to the building such as painting and new carpets which Arun had carried out. A smaller social event had also taken place earlier in the summer which had been a success.
Mr Day is joined on the committee of the group by Val Hendry, secretary, and treasurer Alf Lawrence.
