NOT even the heat could stop a Walberton show from blooming.
Walberton Horticultural Society is celebrating after its successful summer show last Saturday.
In spite of the heat of the past weeks, members still found some 200 exhibits and the domestic classes were also well supported to a high standard.
Mr J Haine was especially successful, winning once again a silver challenge cup for the second year running with the best exhibit in the amateurs’ fruit and vegetables classes, the supreme challenge cup for the best exhibit in the summer show and the Hans Kleine silver challenge cup for the best pot plant.
Joan Jackson was awarded the Bisset Rose Bowl in the floral art class, while Alan Humphrey took the award for the best exhibit in the cut flowers.
Mrs P Varney took a silver challenge trophy for the domestic class and Keith Perry deservedly took a glass tankard for the best handicraft exhibit with a wooden inlaid coffee table.
The hall was very busy in the afternoon when teas and homemade cakes were served.
