A WARM welcome was given by Bersted councillors to the imminent arrival of an indoor skatepark.
Parish council members said they were pleased Arun District Council had approved The Base being located on the Southern Cross Industrial Estate.
Cllr Martin Lury, parish council deputy chairman, told its meeting last week: “This has got to be the most exciting thing in this area for 15 years.
“There was an argument that it should not be on an industrial estate. But all the premises like this are and there would have been a lot of arguments if it was in a residential area.”
Cllr Gez Watson also spoke about her satisfaction with the decision.
District councillor Simon McDougall, who backed the approval, said: “This scheme could kickstart the regeneration of this area.”
As reported, Janina Cooper will open The Base in a former warehouse on Oldlands Way in less than two months. It will be the only attraction of its kind between Eastbourne and Poole.
