Save money by cleaning town beach

CLEANING a Bognor Regis beach will earn volunteers money off food shopping.

Marks and Spencer staff are heading to the town’s western foreshore to give it a spring clean. Anyone who joins the Chichester store employees on April 25 will receive £5 off a £30 spend on food and drink with the retailer.

The event is being held from 10am as part of the national Big Beach Clean-up with the Marine Conservation Society.

Sacha Berendji, the M&S director of retail, said the aim was to beat the 30 tons of waste collected in 2013.

“This year, our beaches and canals, and in turn our marine life, need us and our army of volunteers more than ever before,” he said.

The 2014 clean up will also be a chance to assess the impact the winter storms had on beach litter and debris.

Samantha Fanshawe, the society’s chief executive, said: “Rubbish washed up or left on beaches not only harms wildlife but spoils our enjoyment of the coast too.”
