Obama portrait up for grabs in Aldwick

A piece of 21st-century American history will be up for grabs in Aldwick.

The framed copy of Shepard Fairey's famous 'Hope' portrait of Barack Obama has been presented to the local branch of Amnesty International by an American citizen.

Members will be auctioning the 24in X 18in campaign poster at an Independence Day event on Saturday, July 4.

The coffee morning from 11am-1pm at 2 Fernhurst Gardens will also feature cake sales, dancing majorettes and an animated film set on a 1940s USAF airbase.

Californian preacher Lloyd Auchard will briefly speak about his hopes for his country's new president.

He has spent time in Palestine seeing the plight of refugees.

To acknowledge this, and Amnesty's role in supporting them, the auction will include a set of 1920s postage stamps before Israel's creation.

Admission is 50p. Anyone who wants to bid in the auction but cannot attend should contact the host, Colin Crouch, on 01243 262506.
