New search begins for town centre manager

NEW adverts this week will herald the start of a new search for a Bognor Regis town manager.

The adverts will seek potential candidates who show they have the skills needed to create a vibrant, attractive, safe, accessible and sustainable town centre.

The selected individual will be the key person who works with businesses in the central area and other partners to drive forward improvements.

As well as ambition and enthusiasm, they will need strong negotiating skills and the ability to plan ahead.

Richard McMann, the regeneration advisor to the town’s regeneration board, has co-ordinated the development of the role.

He said: “It is a sign of the commitment of the town’s key partners from both the public and private sector to the increased growth of Bognor that this post is being offered.”

The closing date for applications for the job with a £36,298 annual salary is January 24. Interviews will be held in the week commencing February 24. Details of how to apply are at www/chi.ac.uk/about-us/working-us

The latest adverts are the second batch to appear after the initial search for a manager failed to produce a suitable person.

None of the four hopefuls shortlisted made it past the initial interview last October.

The cost of the 4.5 year post - £260,000 in total - is being met by Arun District Council, Bognor Regis Town Council, Butlin’s and funding generated by the Sainsbury’s development of the former Lec factory site.

Jeremy Pardey, the Butlin’s resort director, will mentor the manager. He said: “Butlin’s are committed to help in as many ways as we can to support the town’s growth. I am especially heartened by the positive and collaborative attitude shown by the respective partners in delivering this important role.”

The manager will be employed by the University of Chichester on behalf of the regeneration board.

Professor Clive Behagg, the university’s vice chancellor, said: “The university is part of the Bognor community and, as such, we are particularly pleased to join with other partners in supporting this programme.”

Gillian Brown, Arun’s leader and the chairman of the regeneration board, said: “This is a tremendous example of what can be achieved by a shared approach and by partners working together for the common good.”

Town mayor Paul Wells said the manager was a key part of regeneration.
