A NEW sports group for adults with learning disabilities is to be set up in Bognor Regis.
Out There! is working with Sports Leaders UK to launch the new group.
It is due to start later this year and will offer swimming and gym use for people aged 16-plus who have a learning disability.
Bognor Regis Rotary Club has commited money to the new venture, being run by Sussex support organisation Outreach 3 Way, along with Sport England.
Out There sport and leisure development manager Kiri Baxter said: “We are really pleased to be extending our sports programmes even further and I would like to thank Bognor Rotary Club and Sport England for their support.
“This will offer people with learning disabilities more opportunities to participate in a range of sports, prompting further inclusion in the community and helping to boost confidence and social interaction.
“The project has the added aim of up-skilling young adults through the sports leaders project.”
The scheme was in its early stages, and would need helpers, but she said it was an exciting prospect.
Outreach 3 Way is a Sussex-based charity which supports people with learning disabilities and autism. It is part of Dimensions, a national not-for-profit organisation with the same aim.
