New centre is open for use by community

A NEW community centre in North Bersted is open.

The funding for the building came from the homes on the site six development on which it is located. It was built by Berkeley Homes Southern.

Inspire Leisure, Arun District Council’s leisure provider, is running the centre on Lakeland Avenue. It will also run sessions out of the building such as a healthy walk programme around some of the nature conservation areas in and around the homes and the nearby lake.

The centre includes a sport hall with a permanent stage, lighting and sound system, meeting rooms, kitchen, bar and changing rooms.

It is surrounded by a toddler play area, a multi-use games area and skate park. New football pitches will also be provided.

Cllr Paul Dendle, Arun’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “I can see this becoming a central hub for all sorts of activities where local residents and clubs can meet.”

Inspire Leisure chief executive John Stride said: “This facility is a brilliant community asset. We look forward to being able to provide some new and exciting activities here, along with hosting some fantastic organisations.”

A chance to look around the centre is available from 10am-midday next Monday to Friday. More details from 01243 826612,
