FREE cash withdrawals are on offer for the first time in the southern half of Felpham village centre.
The Chocolate Box’s owners, Paul and Heather Scanlan, have installed the external ATM. It is part of the Link national network and adds another service to the traditional newsagents on Felpham Road.
Paul said: “We’ve had a really positive response to the cash machine. It’s a chance for us to put The Chocolate Box back on the map. People who come from the Butlin’s end of the village will be able to use it.
“We are very well supported. We took over the business about two-and-a-half years ago and everyone wanted it to survive. We are always looking at ways in which the business will evolve while we still keep the personal touch.”
The cash machine was installed last Thursday and working the next day. It adds to the existing one further north along Felpham Road at the post office.
They help to replace the loss of the village’s two bank branches in the past decade.
Paul said he and his wife had been asked by the Link network three months ago to host a machine which charged for transactions.
“We turned it down because this is a close-knit community and we didn’t want that,” he said. Further talks with the business led to the current set-up. The machine will be soon adapted to be used for buying Lottery tickets and paying utility bills.
