THE most successful NASCAR champion of all time will be among the superstars of motorsport who will be flocking to Goodwood in June for the Festival of Speed.
At its launch event in London today, Lord March announced more details of the spectacular event – and its array of legends ensures it lives up to this year’s theme of ‘Addicted to Winning: The unbeatable champions of motor sport’.
Seven-time NASCAR champion Richard ‘The King’ Petty is returning to the event for the first time since 2006 and is sure to delight petrolheads as well as children who will be in awe of the hero who voiced his own character in the Disney film Cars.
Nine-time world rally champion Sebastien Loeb is also returning to Goodwood for the first time since 2009 and will drive the monstrous Peugeot 206 T16 Pikes Peak car in an assault on the hill record currently held by Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren Formula 1 car.
Other racing legends who will also be appearing at the Festival of Speed include Emerson Fittipaldi, Derek Bell and John Surtees, who will be launching and signing his official biography.
“It’s tremendously exciting that we will again have so many phenomenally successful competitors, from right across the motor sport and motorcycling, taking part in the Festival of Speed,” said Lord March.
“To be able to see Richard Petty, John Surtees, Tom Kristensen, Sebastien Loeb and Giacomo Agostini all at the same event is something you don’t get anywhere except the Goodwood Festival of Speed and it’s yet another indication of the incredible popularity of the event, which celebrates its 21st birthday this year.”
The Festival of Speed takes place from June 26 to 29. Tickets 01243 755055.
