NEW double yellow lines are to be painted along a Felpham road to prevent shoppers from parking.
West Sussex County Council is to extend the parking restriction which currently covers the junction of Andrew Avenue with Middleton Road.
The additional lines will carry on southwards along Andrew Avenue’s east side to encompass the sharp lefthand bend and beyond the road junctions in the immediate area for about three times the length of the existing ones.
The change follows the first set of lines in late 2011 as the Tesco Express store opened on Felpham Way where it meets Middleton Road.
A report by county council head of highways and transport Geoff Lowry states: “The parking restrictions have been designed to move parking further away from the Middleton Road junction with the intention of improving road safety and reducing congestion.”
The scheme was proposed by the joint western Arun area committee last March.
Its decision was prompted by the then county councillor’s opinion the original lines were too short.
One objection about the extension was received from a resident of Ceres Place.
This claimed the extra lines were unnecessary and he was unaware of incidents caused by the parking on Andrew Avenue’s east side.
But Mr Lowry said the need for longer lines was a community-led idea.
