Meningitis case confirmed at Chichester University
A female student at the University of Chichester was admitted to hospital last week with bacterial meningitis.
The 18-year-old was admitted to St Richard's Hospital last Wednesday (March 8) and is described as being in a stable condition and responding well to treatment.
Close household friends of the student are receiving antibiotics in line with guidelines set out by the Health Protection Agency.
There should be no increased risk to fellow students.
Head of student support, John Gallally said: "The risk of another case occurring is small but we are advising staff and students to be vigilant about the symptoms, keep a close eye on anyone who is feeling unwell and seek advice from our Health Centre if they are at all concerned."
The University said it was keeping students and staff regularly informed and is liaising closely with the Health Protection Agency.
