n Initial results of a survey among ME sufferers across Sussex shows a wide range of treatments are being provided.

The Sussex ME/CFS Society has been conducting the survey over the past two years.

So far 403 questionnaires have been completed, with 54 per cent of sufferers moderately affected by the illness and unable to work, and a further 17 per cent virtually housebound and some confined to bed.

The treatment known as Pacing, where patients learn what activities their body will cope with, was found to be helpful by 94 per cent of respondents.

Other treatments include cognitive behavioural therapy while prescriptions of specialist pain medications and low doses of antidepressants to help with sleep, mood and pain have also been beneficial.

Courses in yoga, nutrition, acupuncture and homeopathy have also been highly rated by patients.
