Local views sought on shaping Bognor’s future

A DRAFT plan is being prepared to protect the best of the Bognor Regis area and make space for jobs and housing.

The important document will look ahead as far as 2028 and will guide most planning decisions by Arun District Council.

The local plan covers all aspects of land use. The previous local plan dates from 2003 and the council wants a new one to allow it to look forward.

Its preparation for the plan is known as a local development scheme. It will see residents invited to submit their comments this summer once the draft plan has been published.

Initial consultation in the past two years showed residents and business owners wanted the landscape and heritage to be preserved. But areas for employment and affordable housing were also seen as priorities.

Cllr Ricky Bower, who is in charge of the council’s planning service, said: “This summer we will pull together a draft plan and invite further advice and comments from the public, business owners and other stakeholders to fine-tune a new plan for the district. We want to work together to achieve the best we can to meet the needs of our population.”

Comments will be considered by the council and lead to a revised draft before Christmas. Further comments will be invited before the third draft of the plan is submitted in 2013.
