WORK on the first council houses to be built in the Bognor Regis area for more than 20 years is gathering pace.

Arun District Council has revealed its plans to build the new properties across the district are moving forward.

Roger Elkins, Arun’s cabinet member for housing, said: “I am pleased that, for the first time in more than 24 years, the council is starting to build homes for those most in need in Arun.”

To get the ball rolling, Hastoe Housing Association and MH Architects, Chichester have been appointed by Arun to look at proposals for new housing on several sites under the council’s ownership across the district.

The first of the potential sites to be progressed are some of the large parking areas on the edge of Littlehampton’s Wick Estate, which could
be developed to provide
two-bedroom council houses for rent to help meet current demands.
