A £10,000 lottery grant will help to create an open air classroom in a Bognor Regis park.
The money from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme will go towards the Hotham Park discovery garden.
A report by Arun District Council’s senior community parks officer, Dee Christiansen, says: “The grant will help re-establish and enhance the walled garden inside Hotham Park as a suitable outdoor classroom.
“It will allow the space to be marketed to the seven schools within walking distance of the park and will fund the delivery of five hours of educational activities a week during term times during 2014.”
The project will help to deliver several of the key aims of the Hotham Park management plan, she states.
The council, which owns the park, will manage the spending of half of the grant on behalf of the Arun Biodiversity Forum.
The forum was awarded the grant in partnership with the council.
The decision to go ahead with spending the grant has been made by Cllr Paul Dendle, who is in charge of the council’s environmental services.
