RESIDENTS around Bognor Regis have been urged to mark world cancer day next week by donating blood.
The special day on Tuesday (February 4) will see people joining together to dispel the myths around cancer. Thousands of cancer patients receive blood transfusions each year.
The area’s next session at which the life-giving cells and platelets can be given is on Saturday, February 8, from 1.45-4.30pm and 5.30-8pm on the concourse at Fontwell Park Racecourse.
John Canning, NHS Blood and Transplant’s lead donor relations manager for the Bognor area, said: “World cancer day is a good time to remember that blood is not only given in accident and emergency situations but also for patients undergoing surgery and receiving treatment for cancer and blood diseases. Patients depend on the generosity of blood and platelet donors to provide the vital transfusions they need with platelets only having a shelf life of seven days.”
