Garage could become homes

RENEWED plans could see Walberton’s historic garage become six houses.

The latest proposal by Mr GR Anscombe is to demolish the garage and workshop at Turnpike Motors and create the semi-detached, three-bedroom dwellings.

A statement by his planning agent, Dawn Appleton, said the application repeats one approved by Arun District Council in 2003 but never implemented, the site, in The Street, is in Walberton’s conservation area and it would improve the locality.

“Whilst the proposal will result in the loss of business use, the use is one which is unneighbourly and takes place within buildings which do not make a positive contribution to the conservation area,” she said, adding it would also create much-needed housing.
