A FLORAL display without flowers puzzled some visitors to Felpham’s parish church.

St Mary’s Church held its annual flower festival last weekend.

The Holy Week display consisted of a crown of thorns, bread and wine to reflect the sombre mood at the time of Christ’s death.

Festival organiser Janet Bidwell said: “It would be wrong to have flowers for that display but I’ve seen some people look puzzled when they’ve looked at it.”

The other 23 displays are full of flowers. They go through the year from Advent with notable occasions like Lent, Pentecost and Trinity depicted by a mass of colours.

Janet designed the remembrance display, with its red poppy wreath, white cross, some red flowers and an excerpt from the poem, For The Fallen, by Laurence Binyon.

Last Friday’s opening day of the three-day event proved popular. People were queuing when the doors opened.

The festival was in aid of Tyler’s Trust.
