THE MANAGER of the England football team has been shopping in Chichester city centre this morning (May 5).

Roy Hodgson, 66, took time out to pop into Dartagnan Menswear and sign some flyers for a charity football match taking place in aid of Give 4 Beth later this month,

Tony Smith, the shop’s manager, spotted Mr Hodgson as he was walking past Crispin’s Cafe, in East Street, and caught up with him.

“I just grabbed ten flyers. I don’t usually approach celebrities, but I said: ‘excuse me Mr Hodgson’.

“He had a quick look and said ‘of course’ and walked back with me.”

The England manager signed the flyers, adding he was heading off to watch Crystal Palace v Liverpool this evening.

One of the many players he will be casting his eye over will be former Bishop Luffa pupil Joel Ward, originally from Emsworth who now plays for Crystal Palace.

The Give 4 Beth charity match will see a team from Dartagnan take on Hemingway Menswear, of Portsmouth.

The game takes place on Sunday, May 18, at Oaklands Park, hosted by Chichester Football Club.

Kick off is at 2pm and there will be a raffle and an auction.

Give 4 Beth was originally founded to help four-year-old Bethany Chiddle undergo a life-changing operation to help her walk.

Since raising the money for this the Bognor Regis-based charity has continued going from strength to strength and now funds many projects in the area.
