Donate blood at racecourse

POTENTIAL blood donors are being urged to think of Mother’s Day and sign up for the life-saving procedure.

Fontwell Park Racecourse will host two sessions for blood donors on March 11.

The first will take place from 1.45pm-4.30pm and the second from 5.30pm-8pm.

About six per cent of the blood used in hospitals is for maternity care.

John Canning, NHS Blood and Transplant’s lead donor relations manager for the south east, said: “In the
run-up to Mother’s Day, we would like people to think about not only their own mother, but also the
mothers and families
they can help by simply giving blood.”

Blood is used for pregnant women or new mothers experiencing severe bleeds and for premature babies.
