FINAL plans for the multi-million pound regeneration of Bognor Regis should be revealed in six months.
Arun District Council has told the government it hopes developer St Modwen will submit a planning application for the scheme this summer.
The fact emerged in a letter from the council to the department for communities and local government.
It was read out at last Friday’s (January 10) meeting of Bognor Regis Civic Society.
Hugh Coster, the society’s deputy chairman, said: “Arun say the public will have the opportunity to comment on the planning application.
“But this will be limited to planning matters. We will not have the chance to say whether or not we like the idea. We have to watch out for this. We want proper public consultation.”
St Modwen has been putting together a proposal for leisure uses, housing and a hotel for the Regis Centre site and housing and a food store for the Hothamton car park for six years.
Civic society chairman Laurie Barnes said: “This may well be a crunch year for this scheme. St Modwen has been involved with it since 2006.
“Arun District Council might decide to extend their agreement with them indefinitely. But we feel it’s going to be a crunch time.
“That means we may need all the resources we can get to challenge this. The society will have to deal with that matter as it arises.”
