A NEW chairman has been chosen by Arundel and South Downs Conservatives to lead their association.
About 100 members were present to choose county councillor Peter Griffiths as the new chairman of the group.
He said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been elected chairman at this moment in the constituency’s history.
“We have some major challenges ahead of us. I am confident that with our new, excellent officer team, the association will rise to them.”
Cllr Griffiths has been the county councillor for the Hurstpierpoint division since 2005. His most recent role has been as the cabinet member for corporate relations.
He was previously the cabinet member for education and schools.
His new officer team was also elected at the association’s annual meeting at Sullington Parish Hall.
Its members include county councillor Deborah Urquhart as the deputy chairman (political) and Ian Buckeridge as the deputy chairman for membership and fundraising.
After the meeting, the team met with the consistuency’s MP, Nick Herbert, and the association’s agent, Gary Markwell, and will produce a strategic plan for the next year.
Mr Herbert said: “The increasingly-good economic news gives the Conservative party a strong platform to carry our message to local people.”
