YOUNG graduates donned mini-mortar boards as they left their Barnham pre-school.

The 12 leavers took part in the first graduation ceremony held by Squirrel’s Den Day Care.

They wore the traditional graduates’ outfit for the occasion at Squirrel’s Den’s meeting place of Barnham Village Hall. They were presented with diplomas and gift bags and lined up beneath balloons and a Class of 2014 banner.

Kim Edwards, owner and manager of Squirrel’s Den, said: “We only opened in May, 2013, and we thought it would be a good idea to have a graduation ceremony for the children who are leaving to go to primary school after our first year.

“It was a very good morning and enjoyed by everyone from the feedback I’ve received from the parents and grandparents in the audience.

“It was quite emotional knowing they wouldn’t be going to the pre-school again because you build up a relationship with the children.”

The ceremony
was followed by a sing-song which involved the pre-school’s younger members.

Kim thanked parents for their support. Squirrel’s Den started in the community hall.

Its numbers have grown from 16 to 40.

The event ended with a fundraising event for new items.
