The current Post Office, in West Street, is looking to move within British Bookshops Sussex Stationers in North Street, subject to a public consultation.

This is around 135 metres from its current site.

Customers and residents are invited to join in the six-week consultation which started yesterday (Wednesday).

Roger Gale, general manager of the Post Office Crown Network, said: “We are committed to keeping
our services on the high street, which we know is hugely important to people.

“This proposal means we can continue to do that, into the future.

“Customers will be offered the same wide range of services.”

A number of British Bookshops Sussex Stationers, including the Chichester branch, are owned by WHSmith.

“Our collaboration with WHSmith helps secure the long-term viability of
services for local customers,” said Mr Gale.

“We are making sure we take the right course of
action to sustain services for years to come.

“We must adapt to the changing needs of our customers, who want a convenient and flexible choice of when and how they do business with us – whether that is face to face or on the web.”

The proposed move to Sussex Stationers is planned for October 2016.

If the relocation is given the thumbs-up, the new Post Office branch will have four serving positions, a mixture of one screened
and three open-plan
counters as well as three self-service kiosks – with
the existing Chichester branch team moving to the new site.

During the public consultation, which ends on July 20, the Post Office encourages feedback on factors such as the location, the proposed premises, accessibility or community issues customers would like considered.

Members of the public can provide views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk by email at [email protected] or by phone on 03457 22 33 44
