NOT even the rain could stop play as a new state-of-the-art sports pitch in Felpham was officially declared open for business.
Despite the downpours more that 60 youngsters from football and rugby teams across the area made sure the new £360,000 3G pitch at Inspire Felpham was opened in style.
The good news for parents was because of the multi-purpose pitch’s design, there was not a speck of mud in sight.
Chairman of Arun District Council Terence Chapman, along with other local dignitaries including MP for Bognor Regis and Littlehampton Nick Gibb and Felpham Parish Council chairman Paul English, was also at the launch party held at the leisure centre last Friday afternoon.
Cllr Chapman said: “It is brilliant to be here.
“More importantly, it is great to already see the pitch being put to good use.
“This project shows just what can be achieved through good partnership working between Arun District Council and Inspire Leisure and my thanks to them.”
The first-class facility has been achieved through funding of £210,000 by the district council and a further £150,000 boost from Sport England.
