Campaigner wants to know extra facts

A REQUEST for more help from the government has been made by a Felpham resident.

Roger Thomas is trying to find out more information about why an investigation into Arun District Council came to a halt.

He told last week’s meeting of Bognor Regis Civic Society: “I’ve made another freedom of information request to the department for communities and local government to see what has happened.

“I’m still pursuing this to see why the decision was made to stop this.”

As reported last November, Mr Thomas asked the government’s communities secretary, Eric Pickles, to look into Arun’s handling of Bognor’s regeneration scheme.

Mr Thomas said he had received a lot of information from the department about its work on the matter.

“They did start an investigation but it was suddenly stopped,” he said.

“Mr Pickles said he did not have a mandate to interfere with the council.

“But he must have agreed he had the power or he would have said so at the start.”
