Call for better roads in Bognor Regis

We need better roads, say residents in Bognor Regis.

During the transport roadshow at Bognor Regis Town Hall people were given the opportunity to discuss their transport worries and ideas with county highways experts.

Retired lorry driver Graham Turner, 67, of Linden Road, said: "I have no problems with the buses but some of the roads in this area are shocking, they just seem to be crumbling beneath the car tyres. It is time something was done about these roads it must be causing accidents and as a frequent road-user I can have my say."

The roadshow, part of a series taking place throughout West Sussex, tackled transport themes such as bus frequency, the number of cars on the road and pollution.

Lydia Groves, 38, of Nyetimber Lane said: "As I drive into Bognor nearly every day for work it really affects me. My main concern is the quality of the roads, particularly the A27, and with winter on the way the situation will only get worse."

Highways expert Chris Meevs said: "We have had a lot of people very interested in the Site Six development, and we have had people wanting to pass on positive comments and views about the local bus services."

Frequent bus-user Mavis Carr, 72, of The Esplanade, said: "I rely on the buses and thankfully the ones in this area are very good. The routes are good, they are usually on time and also there are a lot of friendly bus drivers."

Experts also encouraged people to fill out questionnaires, enabling them to give their views and opinions.

Mr Meevs said: "We have been giving out paper questionnaires or people can go online to fill one out if they would prefer that, or we can take notes detailing their concerns and suggestions."

The information collected will be used for the county council's new

Local Transport Plan, which will set out a blueprint for transport in West Sussex from 2011 to 2026 and set out transport policy.
