HAPPY days at Bognor Regis Boys’ Club have been recalled by one of its members.

Bryan Penfold was reminded of two photos of himself with friends outside the club by fellow member Frank Enticknapp’s archive work.

The snapshots show Bryan with Brian Pierce and Den Rishman.

Bryan, now 75, of Ullswater Grove in Felpham, said: “The photographs were taken, as far as I can remember, in early March, 1958.

“It was just before I did my National Service. The car was Brian’s 1939 MG Pickford Tourer.”

The club existed for more than 20 years as a boys-only facility before it became the current youth and community centre.

Bryan said: “We had some good times there. A lot of boys who went there were also at school together.

“I went to the club for about four years before I started work at 15 as an electrician.”

He can fondly remember football and cricket games at the club plus table tennis, boxing, darts and table tennis.

Bryan lived on Mayfield Road at the time. He usually enjoyed going to the club three evenings a week after lessons at Westloats Lane School.

He has lived in the Bognor area all his life.
