A LONG-serving care worker has marked a career milestone with plenty of smiles.

Angela Douglass, who currently works at Elizabeth House Care Home, in Bognor Regis, has just celebrated 30 years in the care profession.

The 46-year-old, known as Angie, has always worked in the area and plenty of guests were happy to share her achievement

Angie said: “Mum was a home help, as a child I sometimes used to go with her on her rounds. I’m sure that’s where I picked up my love for older people and caring ways”

Angie’s parents, who are now retired, were among those who watched proudly as their daughter was commended for her caring and compassionate work ethics.

Angie started her career in care with some work experience at the age of 15 while she was a student at Littlehampton High School.

With a smile, she said: “I could only do limited hours in the beginning because of my age.

“I remember how on many days I was run ragged by more senior carers, telling me I had young legs so could answer more bells”

Angie has been employed by national provider Shaw Healthcare since 2005, originally as a senior support worker, but she was promoted in June 2009 to deputy manager at the Victoria Drive home.

Thanking everyone at the celebration on March 18, she said she was touched by their kindness.

Angie said: “I can’t believe it’s 30 years. I love my work and I can’t imagine ever doing anything any different than working with older people.

“I have a wonderful team of staff here, who work with me to make life for the residents as happy, comfortable and caring as possible.”

Susan Murphy, the regional director for Shaw, said: “It was a lovely afternoon and a pleasure for me to be here. Staff like Angie are invaluable assets to our ongoing provision of care. Her wonderful mentoring skills and creative, caring attitude are real assets for the home.”
