AUDIO: Campaign against Ford eco-town all in tune
Eco-town campaigners are hoping to hit the charts with their latest protest against the planned development at Ford.
A single which sums up their fight is being released on the internet tomorrow (Friday February 27).
Called Anthem For Green England, it has been inspired by the campaign of Communities Against Ford Eco-Town against the 5,000 home scheme.
The release is being organised by Yapton resident John Ricketts.
He has been working closely with US singer-songwriter David Francis after his visit to the area last September.
The song was written by Mr Francis during a recent UK tour.
It will be available to download and also from local shops. Some of the money raised will go to CAFE.
Mr Ricketts commented: "Music has always been a great medium to get an important message across.
"Now, Yapton, Ford and Climping have the support of musicians from around the world who gave their time for free to support the fight against this disastrious eco-town proposal."
Yapton resident and CAFE chairman Vicky Newman said the group's members were grateful for the tuneful support.
The fact an American such as David Francis could see the folly of the eco-town proposals showed up the government for ignoring all CAFE's protests so far, she stated.
Ford is among 11 sites on the shortlist for an eco-town. The government's latest consultation about the proposals ends on March 6. A final shortlist is expected this summer.
The track's release will take place from 8pm tomorrow in The Lamb Inn in Bilsham Road. Entry is free.
Everyone is welcome.
The track features musicians from the UK, USA and Canada who contributed via the internet.
They were: David Francis (lead vocals, guitar); Jeff Sawatsky of Vancouver (bass guitar, slide guitar); Joe Pop of Detroit (fender, piano, synthesizers); Mark Gowan of Cornwall (lead guitar, congas, backing vocals); Eli Gowan of Cornwall (percussion, drums) and John Mono of Yapton (harmony, vocals, backing vocals).
Downloads from the website www.monochromemuseum.co.uk cost 99p.
