A YAPTON Scout is raising funds for the trip of a lifetime to Japan.
Explorer Scout Amy Clayton has been chosen to attend the next World Scout Jamboree.
She is set to spend ten days next summer among 30,000 Scouts. They will take part in watersports, a science programme, helping the surrounding communities in south-west Japan and visiting Hiroshima 70 years after it was devastated by an atomic bomb.
She will stay with a Japanese family and visit Tokyo either side of the jamboree.
Amy, 14, who attends St Philip Howard Catholic High School in Barnham, said: “It’s an amazing feeling to be given this opportunity.
“It’s going to be incredible camping with other Scouts from around the world and experiencing their cultures.”
Amy is one of four Scouts, and the only girl, from the Arundel and Littlehampton district to be selected.
She has to raise £3,000 to attend the jamboree. Her next fundraising event is a summer fair from midday-4pm on July 6 at the Littlehampton Scout HQ in East Ham Road.
She has raised more than £1,000 so far with donations and sponsorship. One of the activities was a group climb of the height of Everest to which she contributed 621 metres.
