BUYING a home is out of reach for more than four out of ten Bognor Regis households.
An analysis of the housing market for Arun District Council shows 42 per cent of the town’s families cannot afford the £30,200 needed to get on the housing ladder.
That is despite Bognor’s relatively cheap property prices. A standard property was said to cost £213,000 last spring in the report given to the council’s local plan sub-committee last Thursday.
Cllr Simon McDougall (Lib Dem, Bersted) said the statistics were worrying.
“There is an outward migration of young people because they have to go elsewhere to earn enough to bring up young children and enjoy some quality time in their life,” he said.
Cllr Ricky Bower (Con, East Preston) said: “People from outside can afford a house here and move but continue to work elsewhere.”
