Getting out and about helps stress

DON’T hide away as the winter draws closer.

Residents across Bognor Regis are being encouraged to enjoy the great outdoors even in the chilly weather.

To mark National Stress Awareness Day on November 6, Arun Wellbeing is calling for everyone to spend a few minutes outside each day.

Paul Wotherspoon, Arun’s cabinet member for community development, said: “It can be hard to get out of the house when it’s cold, but we would encourage Arun residents to wrap up warm and get some fresh air.”

Research by the mental health charity Mind, shows people feel more able to cope with stress when they have spent time outside.

Figures show 94 per cent of people who took part in outdoors activities said it benefited their mental health, physical health and wellbeing.

Beth Murphy, information manager at Mind, said: “For people living busy lifestyles in densely populated areas, being able to get outdoors and access green space is a great way to escape the stresses of day-to-day life.”
