TREMENDOUS generosity will enable a terminally-ill boy from Felpham to meet his idols.
Danny Herbert is going to Disneyland Paris for a chat with famous character such as Mickey Mouse, thanks to donations from Observer readers and the public.
A race night last Saturday (February 23) enabled the £3,000 fundraising target to send Danny, three, to the holiday destination in April to be easily smashed.
Appeal organiser Mike Cooke said: “The total which has been raised has come to just over £4,300.
“Danny is definitely going to Disneyland.
“I have been absolutely overwhelmed by how generous people have been.
“The race night at The George was a great success. There was a good turnout and £798 was raised.
“Danny and his family came along for about an hour. so everyone was able to talk to them and they are thrilled with the result of the appeal. It was a great night.”
Another notable donation came from a woman who walked into the pub after reading the Observer article last week about Danny and handed over £300.
The Southdowns pub also raised £1,000 with a raffle for a free stay at the Bailiffscourt Hotel in Climping.
Danny, of Allin Way, suffers from pulmonary atresia with ventricular septial defect. This means his pulmonary valve in his heart has failed to develop properly and is unable to oxygenate the blood around his body to leave one of his lungs struggling.
Doctors have run out of options to treat him and have said he has a maximum of two years to live.
Danny’s stay at Disneyland Paris will last for four nights and five days in mid-April.
Mr Cooke said the excess donations would be given to Dreams Come True with £250 and £1,000 to the Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice with the backing of Danny’s parents.
