RESIDENTS of a Bognor Regis home enjoyed an outing to the beach thanks to students.
The group of residents of Elizabeth House could bask in the sunshine during the trip to the seafront with pupils from Seaford College.
The jaunty day trip formed part of the partnership between the college and the home’s operator, Shaw Healthcare.
Home manager Marian Drake said: “The residents had a wonderful day out. It was a day that all generations enjoyed with lots of fun and laughter.
“We made sure all students undertook risk assessments to be able to push residents in wheelchairs.”
The beach trip also included a stop for refreshments at Macari’s Restaurant where the residents had a free cup of tea and a cake.
Elizabeth House, in Victoria Drive, is a specialist home which offers dedicated care to older people living with a dementia.
It has 60 single en-suite rooms over three floors. Residents are able to enjoy social events and activities.
Links between the generations at Seaford College and Elizabeth House have been ongoing during the past year.
Social interaction with different age groups has been shown to be ‘very beneficial’ for people living with a dementia. The ‘productive engagement’ is set to continue for the new school year with more projects and days out planned.
Shaw Healthcare runs 11 care services in West Sussex.
