YOUNG performer Ellie Lucas is going from North Bersted to the West End stage.
Ellie, 15, has been picked to appear in the musical Annie Junior at the Arts Theatre in Leicester Square. She will perform a senior ensemble role as a servant, with some lines, and other characters on August 24 and 30.
“I’m excited and looking forward to appearing in the West End,” said Ellie, of Osprey Gardens.
“It’s something that’s on my bucket list and I’m about to do it at the age of 15. I enjoy performing. I spend a lot of time going over my lines but I don’t mind because I enjoy it as well.”
Ellie’s success came in her first audition. She has belonged to a dance school for two years. But she only began to act when she got the lead role in Hood, a modern version of Robin Hood, last September.
She has also performed with The Regis School. Her chance in the West End arose because the production company wanted to offer as many young performers as possible the chance of taking part.
Some 3,000 applied. Auditions went to 350. Of those, 12 of the 90 girls were chosen.
She said: “I was surprised because I recognised some of the others and they’re good.”
