External work stopped by Morrisons

EXTERNAL work on a former Aldwick pub has been stopped by Morrisons.

The company told Arun District Council it would halt construction outside the Ship Inn by the end of last Thursday.

A council spokeswoman said: “The agreement to cease external works, including the extension, followed negotiations between planning officers and the planning consultants representing Morrisons plc.”

Works which affect only the interior of a building do not require planning permission and Morrisons indicated to the council it would continue with them.

The firm’s decision is the latest stage in its bid to open an M Local convenience store in the Aldwick Street building which has involved seeking planning approval.

As reported, Arun’s development control committee deferred the proposal as the county council had requested a road safety audit for the
proposed crossing point to the planned store.

Any unauthorised works carried out without planning permission are at the owner’s risk and if planning permission is not subsequently granted, enforcement action may
be taken.
