A NEW flag is proudly fluttering above Bognor Regis seafront.
The Seaside Award flag was hoisted into the sky this afternoon (Wednesday, May 22).
The honour of sending the flag whizzing into the air was given to Bognor’s town mayor Paul Wells and Arun District Council’s chairman Ann Smee.
The Seaside Award, formerly the Quality Coast Award, is given to seafronts which benefit from high standards of beach management.
The town sadly missed out on being awarded a prestigious Blue Flag award.
The Blue Flag’s absence was due to last year’s non-stop wet weather and a change in the rules for the water quality standard.
The EU made it harder to qualify for the flag by insisting on water quality being measured over a four year average.
