A FORMER student at Westergate Community School has been recognised as one of the best in the country.

Star pupil Jessica Surrell, 17, achieved the second-highest business and communications GCSE mark of thousands of hopefuls last summer.

She achieved an A* grade after five years studying at the school to earn an award for excellence certificate from the CCEA examining body which set the questions.

This award is only given for the three highest marks in the country.

Jessica’s success in business and communications was one of the outstanding marks of five A* and four A grades she achieved at Westergate.

She is now studying A-levels at Havant College before her planned career in accountancy.
