TRUSTEES of a new playcentre in Walberton are close to reaching their fundraising target for the building.
Three grants from local trusts have put the volunteers of Community Playcentre@Walberton within touching distance of their £350,000 goal.
The latest awards amounted to £15,015.
A spokeswoman for the trustees said: “This takes us to within a squeak of our fundraising goal for the build but we still can’t relax.
“We now have a shopping list for some vital bits which the build doesn’t include. So, we will be making yet more trust applications.
“Also, as the days lengthen and the weather improves, we will be turning to the community we serve to fundraise as never before.”
The playcentre is due to be built next to the village school and village hall, off The Street.
The intention is to open the building this September.
It is intended to provide breakfast clubs, after school care and holiday clubs.
Community groups will also be invited to use it.
