South Downs College celebrates another year of A-level success as more student than ever before are in a position to go to university.

The college’s overall pass rate is 97.1 per cent, nearly half of which were at the toughest A* to B grades.

This means more students than in previous years are set to go onto respected courses at university, as applications by college students have risen by more than 100 this year – including those to Oxford and Cambridge.

In addition to this, the performance of students on vocational programmes at the college has remained well above the national average.

Mike Gaston, principal and chief executive of South Downs College, said, “This is another successful year of A-level and vocational results here at South Downs College, reflecting the extraordinary hard work and commitment of another year of students, and the staff who have taught and supported them.

“The quality of our academic, professional and technical programmes has, once again, enabled large numbers of our students to pursue their dreams and, with more people than ever before likely to go onto university, I am confident that we have added significantly to the opportunities local young people can aspire to.

“I am particularly pleased that, alongside our close partners at Havant Sixth Form College, we have enabled young people from the local region to achieve over 2800 full A-level pass grades.

“Based on today’s results, the journey towards our joint vision of excellence for the future has already begun.”
