Eastergate school in line to be extended

MORE pupils could be taught at Eastergate’s school if plans for a new extension are approved.

West Sussex County Council has applied for planning permission to increase the number of classrooms at Eastergate C of E Primary School from five to seven.

The proposed early years centre will enable the school, on Church Lane, to teach 210 pupils against the current 140.

Philippa Hind, the council’s project manager, says in a statement: “The extension is required to provide classrooms for the increased numbers of pupils at the school.”

The intended centre is also in line with the council’s policy of having 4-11 all through primary schools with a minimum of one form entry.

The extra classrooms will allow the school to admit 30 pupils of reception age year on year, she adds.
