Demand for report into £165k Felpham road overspend

A REPORT has been demanded from council officers into an extra expense of £165,000 on Felpham road safety schemes.

The look at how the cost soared was called for by members of the highways and transport sub-committee of the joint western Arun area committee.

The paper by county council officers will be given to the joint committee next week.

Cllr Jacky Pendleton told Middleton Parish Council’s December meeting the sub-committee’s members were concerned at the discrepancy.

She and Cllr Andy Faulkner, of Yapton Parish Council, objected at the highways meeting to the £165,000 being taken from the £500,000 set aside for Comet Corner improvements. She said this stand was supported by the highways committee.

The original funding was agreed by the joint committee last February, with £500,000 also going to Felpham.

But, as reported, the county council has said the Felpham project will cost an extra £165,000 to complete.

Felpham’s councillors have protested and insisted their work should go ahead.

The county council had to find £350,000 to complete the Comet Corner work, Middleton’s retiring clerk David Allsopp said.
