MORE than £1,000 was raised by cycling staff at a Bognor Regis store.

A team of employees of the Tesco branch on Shripney Road took to the saddle to pedal to Lapland over three days around last weekend.

The store’s community champion, Barbara Walkey, dressed for the occasion as Father Christmas.

Donations from customers in support of the effort totalled £1,163 in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Bognor Hotham Rotary Club also visited the store with its sleigh for its annual festive collection.

Mulled wine and roasted chestnuts were available for customers to enjoy as part of the winter warmers weekend. Children could also have their photograph taken professionally for a free personalised festive snow globe.

Store manager Martin Spanner said: “The winter warmers event was great and really seemed to get our customers in the festive spirit.”

This weekend sees Father Christmas making a special trip to the store on Saturday and Sunday. He will be laden with gifts for the young visitors to his grotto from 11am-4pm on both days.

Two adult reindeer and a baby will also be there.
