POLICE in Felpham are appealing for witnesses after a woman was assaulted in a terrifying road rage incident.

It happened about 5.40pm on December 19 when the victim, who is local, was driving her green sports car and stopped at the Downview traffic lights in Felpham Way.

She was following a black hatchback, which is believed to have been travelling without lights, before it stopped at the Middleton Road junction with Flansham Park.

The driver got out, opened the door of the victim’s car, and attacked her, causing injuries to her face and hands.

A Sussex police spokesperson said: “This was an extremely frightening assault and, understandably, the victim was very shaken and upset by what happened.

“We have arrested a 51-year-old local man on suspicion of assault and he has been released on police bail pending further enquiries until January 27 of next year.

“In the meantime, we are trying to establish the circumstances of what led up to this taking place. We would like to hear from anyone who either witnessed the attack or thinks they may have seen the two cars in the area before the incident took place.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting serial 1193, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
