POLICE have appealed for information after a 17-year-old boy was found suffering from severe burns.

A fire officer was flagged down on the A259 at Littlehampton at 5.30pm on June 7, by a motorist who was with the teenager.

The boy had burns to his torso, back and arms, believed to be from an electric shock.

The teenager from Epsom in Surrey was taken to the special burns unit at Chelmsford Hospital in Essex where he is in a critical but stable condition.

Sussex Police are investigating his injuries in relation to the theft of some copper from the substation at Bilsham Road in Yapton.

Detective sergeant Sally Arbuckle said: “This young boy has suffered horrific injuries in what we believe is an attempt to steal cables from electrical substation.

“Substations are extremely dangerous places and should never be entered.

“Anyone with information or saw someone near the substation on Friday is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 1192 of 7/6.”
