SUSSEX police and crime commissioner Katy Bourne has announced she has extended Chief Constable Martin Richard’s, contract by another year, the maximum term permissible.

Commissioner Bourne said: “Following discussion and agreement with the Chief Constable, I am extremely pleased to announce that Mr Richard’s contract of employment has been extended until October 2014.

This gives us almost two years to build on the professional relationship we have already established.”

Chief Constable Martin Richards said: “I am delighted commissioner Katy Bourne has asked me to carry on serving the people of Sussex. It is a great responsibility, honour and something I am incredibly passionate about.

“Last week we jointly launched a campaign to tackle domestic abuse. This is just one example of how we are both absolutely dedicated to supporting victims of crime and to addressing the most important issues for local people.

“It has been, and will continue to be, a time of great change for policing nationally, with Sussex no exception. I am pleased I will be able to provide some stability during this time.”
