A Bognor man was injured in an ‘unprovoked attack’ while walking home from a pub in the town on Friday (April 22), police said.

Sussex Police are seeking witnesses to the incident, which happened in Station Road at about 12.30pm,

The man had been celebrating the Queen’s Birthday at the pub with his wife.

A spokesperson for the force said he accidentally knocked into a woman who was walking in the opposite direction with about three men in Station Road.

He apologised but was punched, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was then kicked in the head several times, police added.

He was taken to St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester where he received treatment for facial injuries.

Detective constable Claire Daysh said; “This was a nasty and unprovoked attack and we would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.

“If you can help please contact us via 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call us on 101, quoting serial 1541 of 22/04. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-org.uk).”

An 18-year-old woman from Chichester and a 19-year-old man from Bognor were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, police said.

After being interviewed they were both released on police bail until May 9 while enquiries continue.
